Hey guys, Brian here with Limelight Detailing in Boise, Idaho, and today I wanted to do a quick demonstration of hot water extraction and upholstery shampoo. And so we’re out here working on a Ford F-150 today, and we’re about to shampoo the backseat. I wanted to show you how we do that and why we do it.
What Tool Does Limelight Use to Clean Seats or Carpet in an Auto
You’ll see in a lot of our service descriptions, as well as just other auto detailers around the country, what they use is. There’s all kinds of different tools that guys use for auto upholstery. We use a Mytee Lite 8070 Carpet Extractor. It’s really important when you’re detailing cars, such as shampooing, that you’re using the proper type of extractor, and you’re extracting stuff out of the carpet with a vacuum system.
If you’re just steam cleaning, wiping things down or putting some kind of masking agent that has a scent over the top of it, you’re not actually cleaning the upholstery. It’s really important to us that, when we’re detailing the inside of a car, that we’re actually cleaning the upholstery and properly sanitizing it and pulling things out of the carpet and eliminating the issue, not just leaving them in the car.

How to Clean the Seats in Your Ford Truck
How we clean it is just spray directly on to the fabric, and you can use quite a bit. You don’t have to just mist it. I like to get it pretty wet because we are going to extract it, and you can tell whether or not you’ve given it enough spray if you see a lot of bubbles start to come up. That means that you’ve saturated it pretty well. Then what I’m going to use is a stiff bristle brush. You can find this at a lot of carpet cleaning stores, or maybe even a Home Depot or Lowe’s, it’s just a carpet cleaning brush. Then what I’m going to do is agitate the fabric and work it into the upholstery.
